QBSA Contractor Licence BSA Builder's Licence
In Queensland Builders and Contractors who perform building work with a value of $3,300 or more are requires to hold a current BSA Builder or Contractor Licence. If you or your Company are not appropriately licensed, you may not be entitled to receive payment for your work and you can face substantial fines from the QBSA.

Karen Schwede LLB is the Legal Practitioner Director of Lawyers Qld. Karen was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1988 and later as a Solicitor to the High Court of Australia. She traveled overseas and was
later admitted as a Solicitor in England, Wales and Hong Kong. After gaining extensive overseas experience Karen returned to Australia where she has worked in private practice and as a Legal Officer for the Queensland State Government.
Karen's experience as a Legal Officer for the Queensland Government has provided her with a unique insight into the workings of the Legal Sections of State Government Departments such as the Queensland Building Services Authority. Karen is one of the most experienced Building Law Solicitors in Queensland.

We specialise in Building and Construction Law including the unique area of QBSA Licensing for Builders and Contractors. We can advise on all aspects of licensing from the appropriate licence for you or your business, to disciplinary matters that affect your BSA Licence. We can also assist with reviews of BSA decisions in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT). Queensland Court of Appeal Upholds Decision that unlicensed contractor must repay $10 million and another $5 million in interest.
In 2009 the Qld Court of appeal determined the matter of Cook's Construction P/L (formerly trading as Stork Food Systems Australasia P/L  QCA 75. The matter related to entitlement to payment for unlicensed building works in Queensland.
